Linked Asset Types in the Asset Type Tree

Purpose

A Linked Asset Type is a placeholder for a In-Place Asset in the Asset Tree that has already been linked to an Asset Type in the Asset Type Tree.

A Linked Asset Type:

• can only be added to the Asset Type Tree.
• is derived from an existing Asset Type (a building block or functional unit) that is selected as the Asset Type Placeholder.
• is linked to a Sub Asset Type of the Asset Type Placeholder, or to the Asset Type Placeholder itself, which is selected as the Linked Asset Type in the Asset Type Tree. The Linked Asset Type cannot be modified in the Asset Tree.

An Linked Asset Type is re-used as a Linked Asset Type in the Asset Type Tree.

Inherited in Asset Tree

A Linked Asset Type is inherited as an In-Place Asset in the Asset Tree.

Business rules

• When a specific Asset Type is specified as the Linked Asset Type for an Asset Type Placeholder then:
• The Linked Asset Type must be a Sub Asset Type of the Asset Type specified as the Asset Type Placeholder.
• The Linked Asset Type is based on the Asset Type specified as the Linked Asset Type.
• The inherited In-Place Asset in the Asset Tree is an instance of the Asset Type.

Please note!

• Asset Types with the same ancestor must be selected for the Asset Type Placeholder and the Linked Asset Type in the Asset Type Tree.
• An In-Place Asset that is inherited from a Linked Asset Type is based on the Asset Type specified as theLinked Asset Type.

When is it Used?

Use a Linked Asset Type when Sub Asset Types are configured for an Asset Type and the lowest level of Sub Asset Types in the Asset Type Tree hierarchy is the level at which the Asset Type must be linked in the Asset Type Tree.
