Asset Placeholders in the Asset Tree: Example

The Asset Type for a “Conveyor” includes a “Motor”, which can be one of various Motors used for different Conveyors in the physical Asset Tree.

In the Asset Type Tree

The Conveyor Asset Type is configured as an Asset Type Placeholder.

The “Conveyor” Asset Type is as follows:

The Asset Type Placeholder identifies that an Asset Placeholder that is based on the “Motor” Asset Type is inherited when an instance of the “Conveyor” Asset Type is added to the Asset Tree.

In the Asset Tree

A number of Motors could be installed in the Conveyor at “Plant 1” so the Asset Type Placeholder for the “Motor” Asset Type is inherited as an Asset Placeholder.

The Asset Tree for a “Conveyor” at “Plant 1” looks like this before the specific “AC Motor” Sub Asset Type is linked to the Asset Placeholder.

In this example an Asset “Motor 1”, which is based on the “AC Motor” Asset Type and a MSI, is available in a workshop to fill the Asset Placeholder.

Use >>, Edit, Cut to move Asset “Motor 1” from the workshop, then use >>, Edit, Paste to fill the “Motor” Asset Placeholder with Asset “Motor 1”.

As a result the  “Motor” Asset Placeholder becomes the  “Motor 1” Filled Asset Placeholder.

The Asset Tree for the Conveyor at “Plant 1” with Filled Asset Placeholder “Motor 1” looks like this.

When the “Motor 1” breaks down and needs to be repaired it is moved from the “Conveyor” to the workshop.

The Asset Tree for the “Conveyor” looks like this after the “Motor 1” is moved to the workshop and before another rotable item is moved to the Asset Placeholder.

The Filled Asset Placeholder for the “AC Motor” Asset Type reverts to an Asset Placeholder until another motor or the repaired “Motor 1” is installed on the “Conveyor”.
