Clone items in the Asset Tree

Purpose

Add an exact copy of an existing item in the Asset Tree, change its details and save it with a new Code.

How to... Clone an item in the Asset Tree

1. Open the edit window for the item to be cloned.

2. Click >> Clone.
The new item is displayed in another edit window.
The record has the same data as the original edit window except for the unique Code that is generated by the system and can be changed.

3. Change the Code and Description as required.

4. Change the record as required.

5. Save the record.

6. Synchronise the item to inherit its sub items from the Asset Type model from which it is derived.

As a result...

The item is added to the Asset Tree model at the same level in the tree structure as the existing item.
The item’s Development Status is “Confirmed” when the item is added.

Business rules

Only original items can be cloned. Details inherited from the Asset Type during synchronisation cannot be cloned.
An Asset can be cloned.
In-Place Assets, Asset Placeholders and Filled Asset Placeholders cannot be cloned.
Components, Component Placeholders, Linked Components, Tasks (with its linked detail records for Task Spares and Task Special Resources) can be cloned.
Inheritance Type for the cloned item is “Original” and Development Status is “Confirmed”.
