Components in the Asset Tree

Purpose

Components are used to define further levels of detail for a physical Asset or an existing physical Asset's Component, typically parts or sub assemblies.

For example, the “Casing” of a motor.

Node Icon

	A Component of an Asset that was added or inherited in the Asset Tree.	A Component in the Asset Type model for the Asset Type on which the Asset is based.

Business rules

A Component can be added to an Asset or another Component; not an In-Place Asset, an Asset Placeholder or a Filled Asset Placeholder.
A Component can be added as a sub Component to an Asset, an In-Place Asset, or another Component in the Asset model.
A Component can be added to an MSI and non-MSI Asset.
Inherited Components cannot be moved.
A Component cannot be moved to one of its descendants.

As a result …

A Component is linked to an Asset or a Component.
The Inheritance Type indicates whether the Component was inherited from the Asset Type Tree (Inherited) or originated in the Asset Tree (Original).
An inherited Component’s Alternative Description can be modified to reflect the physical Component.
An inherited Component inherits the following items from a Component in the Asset Type Tree:
Attributes, Documents, Notes
Asset Components and Asset Tasks.
