Descendants

Definition

A descendant item inherits its properties, sub items and linked detail records from its corresponding ancestor item in the Asset Type model for its ancestor Asset Type in the Asset Type tree.

In the Asset Type Tree a descendant item inherits properties, sub items and linked detail records from its ancestor item (higher up in the hierarchy of the Asset Type Tree structure).

In the Asset Tree each Asset is based on an Asset Type and the Asset inherits properties, sub items and linked detail records that are configured in the Asset Type model. An inherited item in the Asset model is a descendant of its corresponding ancestor item in the Asset Type Tree.

Business rules

Descendants apply to the tree structure in which they occur.
An inherited Asset Type can only be a descendant of another Asset Type.
A inherited Linked Asset Type can only be a descendant of another Linked Asset Type.
An inherited Asset Type Component can only be a descendant of another Asset Type Component.
An inherited Asset Type Task can only be a descendant of another Asset Type Task.
An Asset is a descendant of the Asset Type on which it are based.
A inherited In Place Asset can only be a descendant of an In Place Asset Type or a Linked Asset Type.
An inherited Asset Component can only be a descendant of an Asset Type Component or a Linked Component.
An inherited Asset Task can only be a descendant of an Asset Type Task.
An inherited linked detail record can only be a descendant of a linked detail record for an item in the Asset Type Tree.

Please note!

Sub items in an Asset Type model are inherited as descendant sub items in the Asset model of an Asset that is based on the Asset Type.
A custom item such as an original In-place Asset Type or an original Task cannot be a descendant because it does not have an ancestor.
A descendant item may be the child in a parent-child relationship in a tree hierarchy, where the parent item is its ancestor.
Inherited Tasks and Components in the same Asset Type model or Asset model have the same Code.

- Example -

A descendant is a child, grandchild, great-grandchild etc. in a tree structure. For example, a child is a direct descendant of his or her parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, and earlier ancestors.

In the following Asset Type Tree structure for “Pumps”,

“[*1020] Steam Pumps”, “[*1021] Kinetic Pumps”, “[*1022] Reciprocating Power Pumps”, “[*1023] Rotary Pumps” and “[*1024] Vertical Pumps” are descendants of “[*1019]” “Pumps”.
“[CEPUMP001]”, “[RTPUMP001]” and “[SEPUMP001] are descendants of “[*1021]”.
Inherited Component “[*1115] Casing” is a descendant of “[*1115] Casing” Component.
“[*1111] Fan” In-Place Asset Type is the descendant of “[*1107] Fan” In-Place Asset Type.
“[*1130] Gearbox” Asset Type Placeholder is the descendant of the “[*1126] Gearbox” Asset Type Placeholder.
