Modify an Asset Type
Purpose
Edit or modify details for an Asset Type Folder, Asset Type, In-Place Asset Type, Linked Asset Type or Asset Type Placeholder.
How to… Modify an Asset Type's details in the Asset Type Tree
1. Open the edit window for the required item.
2. Click the required tab and change the details.

3. Save the record.
4. For an Asset Type, click
then select Asset Type Options.
5. Change, add or delete Options that are linked to the Asset Type.
6. For an Asset Type, click
then select Asset Type Rules.
7. Add or delete Rules that are linked to the Asset Type.
As a result...
- If the Development Status was “Confirmed” then it is changed to “MUD”.
- Click
then Accept Development to accept the changes.
- Changed Options and Rules are saved.
- The Asset Type’s descendant Sub Asset Types and Linked Asset Types are changed and saved.
- If a Rule has been changed then the changes are applied to the Asset Type’s descendant Asset Types (recursively).
- If a Rule has been deleted from the Asset Type then:

- the Rule is deleted from all items to which it is linked in the Asset Type model.
- the Rule no longer applies to Assets that are based on the Asset Type.
- The Development Status of deleted Rule and its descendants changes to “Deleted - Awaiting Confirmation”.
Business rules
- An Asset Type Folder, Asset Type, In-Place Asset Type, Linked Asset Type or Asset Type Placeholder can be changed if its Development Status is “NUD”, “NAC”, “MUD”, “MAC” or “Confirmed”.
- The following fields may not be changed if the item is inherited.

- Code, Description on the Assessments for Asset Type window [OK5R5]
- Code, Description on the Products for Asset Type window [OK5R5]
- Code, Description on the Quality Losses for Asset Type window [OK5R5]
- Code, Description on the Speed Losses for Asset Type window [OK5R5]
- Attribute, Any Value on the Attributes for Asset Type window
- Code, Description, Web Address on the Documents for Asset Type window
- If an Asset Type’s Option is changed then the corresponding Option for each descendant Sub Asset Type is changed.
- An Option that is deleted from an Asset Type is no longer available for Rules that are defined for sub items in the Asset Type model, or Option Values for Assets that are based on the Asset Type.
- An Asset Type Option cannot be deleted if:
-
- The Option is referenced in a Rule for the Asset Type.
- The Option is referenced in a Rule for a sub item in the Asset Type model, or for an item in the Asset Type model for a descendant Asset Type.
- The Option and its Option Value exists for an Asset, and there are no more Rules that use the Option in the Asset Type Tree.
- A Rule’s Code may not be changed; only the Sequence number and Notes can be changed.
- A Rule can only be deleted from an Asset Type if it has already been deleted from items to which it was linked in the Asset Type model, and descendant Linked Asset Types and Linked Components.
- A Rule may not be deleted from a descendant item if the Rule is still linked to its ancestor item.
- A deleted Rule is not available for selection after the development changes have been accepted for the Rule and its descendants.
