Example: Use the Grouping Interval to group Tasks

Purpose

Explain how an Asset’s Tasks are combined or grouped on different Work Orders in the required scheduling period.

Grouping Asset Tasks on Proposed Work Orders

The scheduling period starts on the Starting From date specified on the Generate Proposed Work Orders - Combination Options tab, and is broken up into Grouping Intervals that are a specified number of days.

If the Last Scheduled Date for all Tasks is on or after the Starting From date then the scheduling period and the first grouping interval starts on the Starting From date.

If the Last Scheduled Date for a Task is before the Starting From date then the applicable grouping interval starts on the Starting From date.

The start date of the current grouping interval is relative to the date on which the PWOs are generated (today’s date), and the scheduling period end date is calculated as the start date of the current grouping interval plus the number of days specified for Days to Schedule (in advance).

For example, if today’s date is “2011-01-24”, the Starting From date is “2011-01-01”, Days to Schedule is “30” days and the Grouping Interval is “5” days then the scheduling period starts on “2011-01-01”, the current grouping interval starts on “2011-01-21”, and the scheduling period ends on “2011-02-20”, and comprises of eleven grouping intervals of 5 days each with start dates 01 Jan, 06 Jan, 11 Jan, 16 Jan, 21 Jan, 26 Jan, 31 Jan, 05 Feb, 10 Feb, 15 Feb, and 20 Feb.

If today’s date is “2011-01-01” and the Starting From date is “2011-01-01” then the scheduling period starts on “2011-01-01” and ends on “2011-01-31”, and comprises of eight grouping intervals of 5 days each with start dates 01 Jan, 06 Jan, 11 Jan, 16 Jan, 21 Jan, 26 Jan and 31 Jan.

However, if a Task’s Last Scheduled Date is before the scheduling period’s Starting From date then the Task is scheduled in the applicable grouping intervals before the Starting From date.

In order to optimise the number of Proposed Work Orders that are generated, all Tasks that are scheduled to be executed within a Grouping Interval are combined on one Work Order (if possible) based on their Estimated Next Due Dates and the first date of the Grouping Interval during which the Task is scheduled to be executed, and the same values for the standard filter, split and combination options.

Please note!

Configuration details

Asset “AA” has a Component “C1” to which two Tasks are added.

PWO settings

Proposed Work Orders are generated on “2011-01-24” with the following settings.

Scenario 1

The Grouping Interval start date is “2011-01-01” but today’s date is 2011/01/24 (which fall into in the grouping interval that starts on 21 Jan) therefore the scheduling period ends on “2011/02/20”
(i.e. 2011/01/21 + 30 Days to Schedule (in advance), and the dates on which grouping intervals start are:

The Last Scheduled Date for daily Task “D” is set to “2011-01-01” so the daily Task is due to be executed every day from “2011-01-02” to “2011-01-26” and a PWO is generated every day.

The weekly Task’s Last Scheduled Date is set to “2011-01-01” so the weekly Task is due to be executed on the following Estimated Next Due Dates.

As a result, the weekly Task “W” is grouped with the first daily Task “D” in a grouping interval and a combined PWO will be generated on the following dates:

Scenario 2

The Grouping Interval start date is 2010/12/28 but today’s date is 2011/01/24 (which fall into in the grouping interval that starts on 22 Jan) therefore the scheduling period ends on “2011-02-21”
[i.e. 2010/01/22 + 30 Days to Schedule (in advance)], and the dates on which grouping intervals start are:

The Last Scheduled Date for daily Task “D” is set to “2011/01/01” so the daily Task is due to be executed every day from “2011/01/02” to “2011/02/20” and a PWO is generated every day.

The weekly Task’s Last Scheduled Date is set to “2011/01/01” so the weekly Task is due to be executed on the following Estimated Next Due Dates:

Scenario 3

The Grouping Interval start date is 2010/12/28 and today’s date is 2011/01/24 (which fall into in the grouping interval that starts on 22 Jan) therefore the scheduling period ends on 2011/02/21
