Linking Component Placeholders

Purpose

Linking a component placeholder identifies a specific asset type that will be added to the asset type model in the Asset Type Tree. A linked component can only be added to an asset type model as a component placeholder.

How to… Link a Component Placeholder 

1. Add a component placeholder to the required asset type model.

2. Click the Set Link Functionality () button on the toolbar and select Link Asset Type to open the Asset Type Lookup window.

3. In the Asset Type Lookup window, select the required asset type.

4. Click the Refresh () button to update the information displayed on the Details tab.

5. Click the Save () button to save the linked component.

As a result …

• A linked component is added to the asset type or component in the Asset Type Tree.

Business rules

• An Asset Type must be specified as the Linked Asset Type for a Filled Component and cannot be changed.
• An Asset Type Component Placeholder cannot be linked to an Asset Type that has an In-Place Asset Type, Asset Type Placeholder or Linked Asset Type child item.
• The Options and Rules for the Linked Asset Type are added to the Options and Rules for the parent Asset Type of the Component Placeholder if Options Used is ticked on the parent Asset Type’s Details tab.
