Planning and scheduling work
Tactical work planning
Planners use the Proposed Work Orders function to generate a list of Proposed Work Orders for a specified maintenance period and to optimise the plans:
- Long term planning (three months to one year)
- Short term scheduling (one week or one month).
Scheduling
Work scheduling covers:
- Creating scheduled Work Orders for selected Proposed Work Orders, and
- Allocating resources and materials to all Work Orders.
Long Term Planning
For long term planning create a Maintenance Plan for a year or 6 months.
- Make sure that all Tasks have been specified for all Assets.
- Generate a list of Proposed Work Orders to see when the Tasks will fall due.
- Change the Last Scheduled Date for Tasks on the same Asset to align the Tasks.
- Specify different Last Scheduled Dates for Tasks on different Assets to balance the workload over the specified time period.
- Print a Maintenance Plan for the specified time period.
Short Term Scheduling
Once a week, for example every Monday:
- Generate the Proposed Work Orders for Scheduled Tasks to identify the Tasks that are due in this time period, which could include yearly or 6-monthly Tasks.
- Align the Tasks and balance the workload for this time period based on the current information about resources, labour, production schedules and ad hoc work that has been done already.
- Create Work Orders for the Tasks that are due in this time period.
- Assign Work Orders to specific Sections and Staff Members.
Once a month
- Review the Maintenance Plan.
- Generate the Proposed Work Orders for the rest of the year (or 6 months).
- Adjust the Tasks as necessary.
Proposed Work Orders
A Planner generates the list of Proposed Work Orders and creates Work Orders for the Sites for which he/she is responsible.
The filter, split and combination options specified on the Generate Proposed Work Orders Filter window and the scheduling method specified for Asset Tasks determine:
- Which Asset Tasks are due to be done within the specified number of days, and
- How many times the Asset Task is required within the time period.
A Proposed Work Order is generated for:
- Each Asset with Tasks that match the filter, split and combination options.
- An Asset with a specific Task Roll Up Point. The Proposed Work Order includes all Tasks that are linked to the specified Task Roll Up Point and meet the filter, split and combination options.
- An Asset with Tasks for a specific Event.
