Options and Rules Functionality

Purpose

Determine whether or not a specific inherited item exists in an Asset model for a physical Asset.

Please note!

Options and Rules functionality

All the Options and Rules that apply to physical Assets are configured before they are linked to the Asset Types on which physical Assets are based.

Options defined for an Asset Type and the Rules defined for items in the Asset Type model determine whether Option Values must be specified when a physical Asset that is based on the Asset Type is configured in the Asset Tree.

A new Asset is synchronised with the Asset Type on which it is based to inherit its child items.

During synchronisation each Rule (specified for items in the Asset Type model) is evaluated using the applicable Option Value (specified for an Asset) to determine whether an item in the Asset Type model is applicable to and inherited as an item in the Asset model for the physical Asset.

In the Asset Type Tree

The number of similar Asset Types can be reduced to a single Asset Type by specifying different Options and defining Rules that apply to items in the Asset Type model.

Options defined for the Asset Type are referenced in the set of Rules defined for the Asset Type.

A selection of the Rules defined for the Asset Type are inherited by the Asset Type’s sub items and descendant Asset Type models depending on their relevance; that is, when and where they apply.

Development changes to implement Options and Rules for existing Asset Types are inherited by their descendants in the Asset Type Tree.

In the Asset Tree

The following conditions determine whether or not an item (such as a Component) is inherited in the Asset model from the Asset Type model on which an Asset is based.

As a result only the applicable In-Place Assets, Asset Placeholders, Components, Component Placeholders, Tasks, Task Spares, Task Special Resources, Task Labour Records are inherited by a physical Asset in the Asset Tree.

Inherited items with Option Values that do not satisfy the Rules are excluded from the Asset model.

Benefits

Configuration of a complex Asset Type Tree and Asset Tree is easier and quicker.

Only the relevant Components and Tasks are configured for each Asset, based on its Options and Rules.
