Translate a Standard Phrase

Purpose

Translate a Standard Phrase into Standard Languages that are used for SSRS reports and Analyser Queries.

How to… Translate a Standard Phrase into a Standard Language

1. Click Shared Configuration - Standard Phrases.
The Standard Phrase edit window opens.

2. Search for the Standard Phrase.

3. Click then select Phrase Translations in the toolbar on the edit window.
The Translations for Standard Phrase window opens.

4. For each Language into which the Phrase must be translated:
Select the required Standard Language.
Enter the Translated Text.
Save the translated phrase.

5. Close the Translations for Standard Phrase window.

6. Save the Standard Phrase record.

Data fields

These data entry fields are captured for each Standard Phrase in a Standard Language.

Field	Description/Setting
Standard Language	The Standard Language into which the Standard Phrase is translated.
Translated	The translation of the Standard Phrase.

Web Translation Service

A web service provided by Worldlingo.com can be purchased to translate an item's Alt. Description. The organisation receives a Service Number and Password for the service.

A user with access to the internet can click a button to translate the item's Alt. Description into each of the specified Languages.

Please note!

If the translation service is not used then capture each translation as one or more Standard Phrases.
Only words that are enclosed in curly {brackets} in an item’s Alt. Description are translated.
Break sentences up into short reusable phrases, typically single words like “check”, “the”, “pump”, “seal”.
The translated language syntax may not be perfect!
Translations are only used in SSRS reports and Analyser queries, primarily for the Work Order.
Unicode characters are supported.
Enter the Alt. Description between curly brackets when adding a Standard Task, for example {Lubricate}.
Change an existing Standard Task’s Alt. Description to include curly brackets.
Check the translations for the Standard Task’s Alt. Description from the Standard Task edit window. The Translations window opens, showing the Translations that will be used on reports for each Standard Language.

- Example -

“Lubricate” is a Standard Task for which the Alt. Description must be translated, therefore add the word “Lubricate” to the Standard Phrases table and translate it into each of the Standard Languages.

These non-standard tools are available on the Translations for Standard Phrase window.

	Select one or more Standard Languages for which the translated Text will be added to the grid list.
