Asset Placeholders and rotable items
Definition
Assets can be moved from one location to another in the Asset Tree by cutting and pasting the Asset into an Asset Placeholder.
Asset Placeholders improve data integrity and accuracy when moving Assets in the Asset Tree, and provide functionality for rotable items.
Rotable Items
In practice some Assets can be installed at or moved to different positions in a facility, plant or factory; these Assets are called rotable items.
For example, motors with the same Asset Type can be installed in a number of different Assets after being overhauled or fixed in a workshop, or they can be moved directly to other Asset Placeholders. These motors are rotated between Asset Placeholders as the need arises. When an electric motor on a production line is moved to the workshop to be overhauled, it could be replaced in the production line by an electric motor from the workshop.
On Key 5 uses “cut and paste” functionality to move rotable items (Assets and their child items) in the Asset Tree.
Asset Placeholders for Rotable Items
Asset Placeholders only occur in the Asset Tree and are inherited from Asset Type Placeholders that are not linked to a specific Asset Type in the Asset Type Tree.
An Asset Placeholder can be filled by different Assets (rotable items) that are all based on the same generic Asset Type.
An Asset Placeholder identifies a position in the Asset Tree where Assets can be moved in order to replicate what has occurred in the facility, plant or factory.
An Asset Placeholder allows a user to:
Please note!
- An Asset Type Placeholder must be configured in the Asset Type Tree for each possible Asset Placeholder in the Asset Tree.
- An Asset Placeholder cannot be added in the Asset Tree.
Business rules
- An Asset (and its Asset model) can be moved in the Asset Tree.
- If a rotable Asset is moved to an Asset Placeholder then the Asset Type on which it is based must be the same as the generic Asset Type specified for the Asset Placeholder.
- If a rotable Asset is moved to an Asset Placeholder with a different generic Asset Type then the rotable Asset becomes a child of the Filled Asset Placeholder, even after a rotable Asset that is based on the same Asset Type is moved to the Filled Asset Placeholder.
Moving an Asset from an Asset Placeholder
When an Asset is moved from a Filled Asset Placeholder in the Asset Tree (using “cut and paste” functionality) then:
- The Filled Asset Placeholder reverts to an Asset Placeholder
.
- The Asset Placeholder’s Development Status is “NAC” and it has a new Code.
- The rotable Asset retains its Code and Description in its new position in the Asset Tree.
Moving an Asset to an Asset Placeholder
When a rotable Asset is moved to an Asset Placeholder with the same generic Asset Type then:
- The Asset Placeholder changes to a Filled Asset Placeholder
.
- The rotable Asset (and its Asset model) fills the Asset Placeholder.
- The rotable Asset retains its Code and Description in its new position in the Asset Tree.
When a rotable Asset is moved to an Asset Placeholder with a different generic Asset Type then:
- The Asset becomes a child of the Asset Placeholder.
