Purpose
An Option provides specific information about a characteristic of an item in an Asset Type model and the possible values that apply to the characteristic for different items in Asset models for physical Assets, depending on their physical composition and context.
Business rules
In the Asset Type Tree, Options are configured as linked detail records for Asset Types in an Asset Type model and are inherited by descendant Sub Asset Types.
In the Asset Tree, the Options that are available for a physical Asset are listed in a lookup list of Options for the Asset Type on which the Asset is based. Option Values can only be added to the Asset for the set of Options in the lookup list.
Configuring Options
Refer to Master data for Asset Register > Options and Add Options.
Option Categories provide a grouping mechanism for Options on the Options browse window.
For example, Option Categories called “Aircraft” and “Vehicle” can be defined to distinguish between the applicable sets of Options for these groups of Asset Types.
An Option for an aircraft may specify whether or not it has an “Entertainment System”, and Options for a vehicle may include “Engine Size” and whether or not it has “ABS”.
Refer to Master data for Asset Register > Option Categories and Add Option Categories.
