Linked Asset Type

When is it used?
In the Asset Type Tree
- An Asset Type Placeholder is used to select the specific Asset Type from which a Linked Asset Type is derived and inherits its properties and sub items.
- A Component Placeholder is used to select the specific Asset Type from which a Linked Component is derived and inherits its properties and sub items.
In the Asset Tree
- An Asset Placeholder is used to select the specific Asset Type on which a Filled Asset Placeholder is based and inherits its properties and sub items.
- A Component Placeholder is used to select the specific Asset Type from which a Filled Component is derived and inherits its properties and sub items.
Please note!
- Components and Tasks are only inherited in the Asset Tree when the Linked Asset Type is populated.
- If maintenance history must be kept for an Asset in the Asset Tree then use an Asset Type Placeholder instead of a Component Placeholder in the Asset Type Tree.
- An Asset Type Placeholder is inherited as an Asset Placeholder in the Asset Tree if the Linked Asset Type is not populated in the Asset Type Tree.
- An Asset Placeholder in the Asset Tree can only be filled by moving an Asset (that is based on the same Asset Type as the Asset Type Placeholder’s Linked Asset Type) to the Asset Placeholder.
- Double-click on the Asset Type Placeholder or Linked Asset Type to open the specified Asset Type's edit window and click on the Information tab to view the Asset Type's location in the Asset Tree and Asset Type Tree.
